Great people are exceptional historical figures with special abilities while a great nation is a nation whose leaders know God, whose leaders are patriotic and live a life worthy of emulation by laying a good legacy for the citizens. Abraham was one of such a great leader whose righteousness made all his descendants followed his steps because he feared God.

In Genesis 12:1-2 God called Abraham out of his country with a promise that was re-affirmed in Genesis 17:4

“1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing

Through Abraham, many great men sprung up, from Isaac to Jacob, from Jacob to his sons (the 12 tribes of Israel). No wonder God said “I know Abraham…” in Gen 18:19. Abraham did not only receive blessings, he was a blessing to others. And of course, all of us refer to Abraham’s blessings today when we sing “Abraham’s blessing are mine”. And today, Israel still remain a country after God’s own heart because of God’s promise to Abraham.

A Great Nation as described in Psalm 33:12, is a nation ruled by God.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance”. (Psalm 33:12)

Also, Psalm 33:16-20 says:

16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;

19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.

What makes a Great Nation?

It is great people that makes great nation. The greatness of a Nation is not determined by the size of its army or the sophistication of its arsenal. Psalm 33 says, “no king is saved by the multitude of his host”. A Nation’s greatness is determined by the level of greatness of its people. A nation that honours God is a great Nation. A Nation where God’s people live in obedience to His righteous command is a Great Nation.

Greatness is not measured by a man’s gains and accomplishment only. Greatness is not measured by how big you are or how big your car, or personal possessions are. Great people are those who fulfilling God’s divine purpose for their lives. Are you living the purpose of God on the earth?

When Esther became queen, she thought she had attained the highest level of greatness. Meanwhile, Esther’s true greatness was in the purpose for which God’s had made her queen. You need to ask yourself this question: What is God’s agenda for my talent, time and money? A lack of understanding of these may leads to a purposeless life.

Here is a call to action: If a great nation is defined by how people respond to God’s instructions and assignments. If a Great nation cannot exist without the great people whose delights are in following God’s instructions and obeying them. You can join the train of God’s Great people in this endtime. Be among the people under God’s rule and directions. You can also encourage others to join the great people of God. If our nation is not great today, God wants to use us to make our Nation Great. For us to be great indeed, God must be at the centre of our lives.

In conclusion, God desires to use you to solve the problem of your country. He wants to use you to make your nation great. Be prepared to be used by God for his greatness. Hallelujah!
