HAGGAI 1:2-10

Haggai chapter 1, our focus this week expresses God’s anger with the people of Israel for neglecting the work in His house to focusing on building houses for themselves to leave in. He warned them to consider their ways as problems facing them was due to their disobedient Haggai1:6. Jesus, speaking in Matt. 7:21-28 narrated two builders as one being wise and the other foolish. He explained that the one who built on the rock was the man who heard His Word and obeyed it by building his whole life in the Word through subjection, dedication and total trust in Him, while the one that neglected His Word was foolish, disobedient, whose foundation of faith was not genuine.

As builders with God, we must build according to His plan, instruction and desire. Nehemiah 2:18b says’ “Let us arise and build!’ So they put their hands to the good work.” Nehemiah and his colleague had the same mind, no wonder when Sambalat and Tobiah started mocking them, they were not bothered but focused on the business of God which was their primary concern. “9 For we are God’s fellow workers; ……. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.” 1 Cor. 3:9-10. No matter who is the builder, Jesus must be the focus of the foundation. He sent His Spirit to guide His Disciples in revealing all truth. One cannot separate the words of the Apostles from the foundation of Christ -John 16:13; 1 Thessalonians 2:13 “…but you are fellow citizens with the saints…having been built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the Chief Cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple of the Lord…” (Ephesians 2:19b-21).

The Pharisees built their hopes on external blessings and privileges thereby shifted their minds from Christ their Salvation. Christ told them that Satan was their father and not Abraham.

Are you a builder ? build daily with God your obedience in service, commitment through prayers, Bible study and giving to the things of God to move His Kingdom forward. Christ described the disaster descended on the house built on the sand as “great when it fell” He warns us to avoid a similar experience.

Therefore, let’s consider our ways today, heed His warning and build with God.
