Welcome to Church this morning; it’s our teens Sunday which is part of our teen’s week; a week in our organization to celebrate the uniqueness of this age bracket and importantly celebrate the young people who at this time of their lives surrounded by various temptations and attractions have chosen to follow Christ.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Branded”, and the text is taken from the Genesis 37:3
“Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colors”.
This theme is quite timely especially when one considers the environment we find ourselves today as Christians. A coat of many colors stands you out in a crowd, it’s a symbol of being different from the pack, it’s a brand attraction that speaks volumes and in Joseph’s case, we know it was heavenly brand.
1st Peter 2:9 says ” But you are a chosen race, royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out in the crowd for His glory, God does not call the ones who society expects to step up. God’s call comes to people of wide assortment of demographics. As we look throughout scripture, God calls the young and naive, calls the old and the wise, calls even the youngest of family of 12.
He is still in the business of calling people to Himself to make them what they never thought they could be, He only asks that you yield yourself completely to Him and make Him the center of your world. When we receive Him, the Holy Spirit becomes the seal for our acceptance and our help to living the branded life of Christ.
As we decided to yield completely to Him, let us remember that this coat of many colors comes with a cost, for some it’s lighter than others but that coat is a process of growth that teaches us to depend solely on the God who has called you to Himself. So when it’s time to pay the price, do so with grace and the help that God always provides and your testimony will be like that of Joseph in Genesis 50:20 “As far as you’re concerned, you were planning evil against me, but God intended it for good, planning to bring about the present result so that many people would be preserved alive.” (ISV).
We are called, we are chosen, and we are branded for Christ and by Christ to make others a part of His Brand.
